When the comments get over 30, I can't respond to them directly, so I'm sorry and will have to make a general comment.

First thanks for all the feedback (well, most of it), and to the primary point that I was unfair to Mr Green and his article -- calling most of it bullshit-- yeah, that probably was too strong a claim but I am very sensitive to people being disingenuous and making the intentionally (I think) troll-y claim that $140 is the new poverty line I find really annoying.

Now it worked, in that it got attention to what I believe is the far more important, and correct, claim that the lower middle class is being squeezed -- and that is why I wrote the article.

So, Yes, I'm glad he wrote it, and I guess I even understand why being sloppy ended up working, but that is really not my style. As a former Physics guy, I like precision, and that everyone still has a lot of stuff, yet is unhappy, that is a very different point than everyone doesn't have enough stuff!

Hi Chris, Thank you for another outstanding piece! Just wanted to chime in on the childcare dilemma that many American moms face. I recently (actually over a year now) quit my 15 year career to stay home with our three young children. For me it wasn’t an economic decision, I was burned out from corporate life while also juggling small children. The feminism that I was raised with in my schooling and upbringing, resisted this urge greatly. But I have to say that it was truly the best decision I have ever made! The culture subtly told me that being a stay at home mom was repressive and backward, but it has been the complete opposite for me! I have great joy and deep satisfaction in serving and caring for my family. We are also very tied into our local church community that has given us a “village” and a sense that we’re all doing life together purposefully for the glory of God. I sometimes forget that our lifestyle is in the great minority of how most Americans live and it grieves me to think that so many live a very isolated and lonely life when there is a better way!
